Easter in Innsbruck

We spent Saturday driving across Switzerland to Austria. Kim Gruia had introduced me to Waze, a GPS app - and like her, I chose Elvis to give me directions. So Monique and I, the "pretty mamas" that we are, followed Elvis to the border where we left him behind and entered snow and mountains. The Arlberg tunnels were quite amazing and we were in awe by the amount of snow that had fallen.
A quick drop of the bags and the car and we crossed the Inn Bridge (hence Innsbruck) into the old town. The original bridge dated back to 1180.
It was evening so the shops were closed and we wandered the streets, enjoyed some cafes and had a great Austrian meal at the Golden Adler - serving upscale Austrian fare. The Easter Market is a big draw here and one of the reasons we decided to start in Innsbruck.

An odd choice for dining was the restaurant behind our hotel - The China Restaurant Waldorf! We gave it a miss.
Not sure what they are trying to sell here!
Easter Sunday was not as wet as predicted. We walked back through the old town and took the Nordkette train and cable car to the top of the Karwendel Mountain range, to Hafelekar at 2256m.
Snow, snow and more snow! Powder to the skiers and boarders. It was still snowing and there were few on the slopes, but many who wanted to be on the top and wait for a break in the clouds. We had fun sliding around, catching some sights and standing on the edge of some major drop offs. We meandered in deep snow over the top edge to see the other side, gorgeous views with the sun.
The first leg of the cable car tour to Hungerburg before heading to Hafelekar
At Hungerburg, taking a selfie before going up to Seegrube.
Cable car leaving Hafelekar
The weather at Seegrube was very unpredictable!  This cable car was arriving and we had to take the picture through the icicles hanging from the rooftops.
Yes indeed, we are HERE!
Some great shots at Hafelekar while the weather was cooperating!

The edge of the world it seems!

On the way down again from Hungerburg
We spent a late lunch in the Hapsburg palace enjoying Austrian wine, food and of course, Sacher Torte (they know what the tourists recognize!). Lots of tourists, market stalls with Easter goods and even bacon for sale. We did a few of the walking tours and decided - time for sundowners- wine and good cheese!

Innsbruck's Hotel row.  Ours is fourth from the left.
Animal hats were everywhere, Corine decided to model the mountain goat!
Monique paused for a photo at every egg we found! This one is in the courtyard in the Hapsburg Palace.
Sacher torte!  It was great, the Riesling was too!
Wrought Iron signs in the city are impressive.

Main street in the "new" town.
Famous Arc heading into the middle of the city

13 year old Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart played here!

Giant Easter Eggs were everywhere in the city.  We had to take a photo of this Orange Egg, we both felt it looked very Dutch! How do you like your eggs?
chocolate?
Soft boiled?
Sunny Side Up?
Hard boiled?
Easy Over?
 Or poached?
and now there are no more egg jokes, Easter is over!  Off to Cortina, Italy tomorrow.
