Happy Birthday Dad!
So as Dad flies to Rome we drive from Innsbruck to Cortina which is also in Italy. Leaving Innsbruck we were able to see up to Hungerburg as the clouds that blocked it from site yesterday had moved on. The drive involved a short time on the highway and then we hit the regional roads for the remainder. The roads were winding as we climbed up over the pass following signs towards Brixen and eventually Cortina. The closer we got the more we could see the rock faces that are the Dolomites.
The sun was really cooperating and we were able to catch some pretty amazing views. We passed amazing farmland and could see skiers in the distance enjoying what is left of spring skiing. At one point, Monique noticed the Nordic ski centre, presumably where the events were held for the 1956 Olympics. It seemed everyone was out enjoying the day.
With all the stopping and looking around, we arrived mid afternoon, too late to start on some adventure. So we took a long walk through town and started to narrow down our plans for the next few days. Cortina is nestled amongst some pretty majestic peaks. We are both excited to get to the hills for some great panoramas!

Peaks that keep surprising us at every bend in the road. |

Some more covered in snow than others. |

Looking forward to getting closer to them.

We enjoyed the walk through town and it reminded Monique a little of Zermatt. The core is car free and pedestrian friendly. It makes for an easier, more enjoyable time.

Looking over to Tofana, and yes, that is a camera in my jacket! |

Siesta time in Cortina's downtown. |

Dinner was at a local restaurant recommended by the hotel front desk. We enjoyed good local wine from the Veneto region and paired it with Venison medallions (Corine) and lamb spiedinni (Monique). The winner for best plate presentation was Monique as heads turned when the waiter brought her meal to the table.
